RECEIVER OF TAXES
The Town of Cicero Receiver of Taxes is responsible for processing all of the property taxes collected by the town government of Cicero. Town/county collections are conducted in January, Village of North Syracuse (within Town of Cicero) are collected in June and school property taxes are collected in September. Please see the latest Tax Schedule for critical dates in the tax roll preparation process and the most current due dates for taxes collected by this office as they may not be the same as last year's due dates.

Many homeowners have their property taxes paid from an escrow account through their mortgage company. It is vitally important that you maintain close scrutiny of your property tax payment history even if you do not pay your taxes directly. You and/or your lender are not exempt from the various penalties, fees and proceedings that become relevant if an error results in the late or non-payment of your property taxes.

If you are going to be paying on line, you need to know that many of those payments are NOT done instantly. The company cuts a check payable to the Receiver of Taxes and MAILS it to the tax office. Yes, snail mail. There is NO direct deposit of these payments. These payment envelopes DO NOT get a U S Postal Service postmark, which is to be used as date of receipt. (Real Property Tax Law 925) Therefore, many arrive at the tax office after the due date and we have to return them to the property owners and request the penalty. This makes for some VERY unhappy taxpayers. You NEED to contact your Bank and verify their policy and time structure for such payments. We do not want you to be uniformed. If you are going to use this service you MUST be sure to have the payment to us by the due date.

As a property owner in New York State, you may be eligible for various exemptions that will reduce the amount of taxes that are levied against your property. Information on exemption programs for veterans, seniors and other categories are available through the town's Assessment Department.
